Weekly Theme: Google Doodle
Real-time search, ladies and gentlemen, is the next big time. Google last year tried to buy Twitter for a cool $250 million. Twitter said no and has continued to perfect their awesome product. Google doesn’t give search results in real-time, but they have started to put tweets (real-time) into their results.
We are living in a time where information is transferring at a rapid pace and users are demanding they get the latest information as it happens. Last year, Michael Jackson’s death shut down Twitter, as users were entering and searching second by second updates. Users were going onto Twitter instead of Google.
Of course, marketing companies and brands have taken notice and have started to create marketing strategies for Twitter and real-time information. We could see a day where Twitter might be the second most powerful search engine or perhaps even number one.
If the sale went through, this could have been the new Google home page.

I really like the thought behind this design. I think “breaking news” now comes from these social networks. Twitter either gets bought out by Google or Bing, or they become big entity and compete with these big search engines.
What if Facebook and twitter join forces? Facebook has all the data to compete with Google and Twitter has real-time information to compete with Google, together can they topple the giant?
I need to learn how to use Twitter properly.
FB & Twitter marriage is an interesting idea. I can see how Twitter would benefit as they don’t really have clear ad revenue generation but how would FB benefit? They have already implemented some Twitter-esque features, like status updates being displayed like a Twitter Feed.

You are right, Facebook has tried to make “lighter” version that is Twitter-esque but nothing that has come close to Twitter. I know more and more people are using/posting on Twitter as a link aggregator and dialogue than on FB. FB has become a tool for many (in my circles at least) as a tool to keep in touch with friends.
FB would benefit I think.
